Conor McGregor is the infamous featherweight and lightweight champion, having also fought in the welterweight division too. Being that the only welterweight battles fought in welterweight by McGregor were against Nate Diaz, speculation that McGregor could go back to welterweight for the winner of a potential BMF rematch of Masvidal and Diaz.
With rumors spinning about a potential Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal 2, one rumor that is also gaining traction about Conor McGregor moving back up to welterweight. In a tweet put out by ESPN’s Brett Okamoto it was hinted that if all pieces fell into place, the chance of McGregor going up to welterweight could be high, “Per manager Ali Abdelaziz, if Jorge Masvidal were to ask UFC for a Nate Diaz BMF rematch, over a Kamaru Brown title fight, they’d ask the UFC to off the 170 pound title shot to Conor McGregor, for a chance to win his third title.” Now if these events were to unfold in an unprecedented perfect storm, a comeback of the ages would be in store for the Notorious.
Although the UFC world may either love or hate if Conor McGregor were to get the chance for his third title and succeed, it would still be nice to see a star make a comeback to glory after a period of inconsistency.
